February/March Analogue
February 2006
Well my year is pretty much over; I have one week left in NY!!!!!!!! Where has the year gone? I’m really looking forward to coming home, seeing my family and catching up with you all; but at the same time I’m really going to miss the lights, sights, and action of New York City. I decided to do a combined February/March ‘Analogue’ as I didn’t have much to write about at the beginning of February and I knew it’d only be a couple of weeks before I’d have to write my March one.
My weekend off in January I spent in the city doing the last minute things that I wanted to do. On the Sunday afternoon I went with 3 of my kiwi friends to the Broadway show ‘The Producers’. I liked it but not as much as ‘Hairspray’ (which I saw last April), perhaps it’s because I knew the level of professionalism to expect. I’ve also recently been to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, it’s so big that you could spend a whole week there and still not see everything. Unfortunately the 2 exhibits that we really wanted to see, Period Clothing and Oceania Art, were closed for renovation. We were able to see: Ancient Egyptian Art which had mummies and that type of stuff, the Greek Room which had all type of ancient Greek Statues. But my favourite room was the one with all the Knights, and their horses all armored up! I found that quite interesting.
My weekend off in February I spent up in Connecticut saying goodbye to Julie and Omega. As always I had a great time. I got to CT fine and it started snowing late Saturday afternoon. By Sunday morning there was sooooo much snow that Church was actually cancelled, and all shops/businesses were closed! It kept snowing until about 2:00pm, once it had mostly stopped we got the sleds and headed down to the local Elementary school as it had a great hill to slide down!!! We were numb after a couple of hours sledding so it was back inside to defrost. This snowstorm is the one that hit the news as the biggest snowstorm to hit NY/CT/NJ in the past 50+ years. My train from CT to NYC was working but my train from NYC to Long Island wasn’t. So I called Suzie and she said to stay another night in CT and return to Long Island in the morning - so although I got ‘stuck’ in the storm I wasn’t complaining!
I cannot complain about the weather that I’ve had this past week though. I’ve spent the past week relaxing by a pool and a resort in Puerto Rico! Suzie’s parents spend the winter months living in a condo at the ‘Westin Rio Mar Golf Resort and Spa’ on the north shore of Puerto Rico, so every year over winter vacation Suzie and the kids and Suzie’s sister and her son head down to Puerto Rico for a week! I had a great time, we spent 7.5 days lounging by the pool and on the beach. I must say though it wasn’t really my type of vacation. I prefer going out and seeing things rather than sitting by the pool all day every day. Our days kinda went like this; wake up, breakfast, pool, lunch, pool, country club to shower and change, then out to dinner. It was a nice way to end my year here though. Coming back to NY was a bit of a shock to the body; we’d had temperatures ranging from 25oC to 35oC then the high in NY the day after we arrived home was -2oC!!!
Well I guess that’s about it from me for now. Next time you hear from me I’ll be back in good ‘ol NZ. Looking forward to catching up with you soon.
Love and God Bless
Anna
