October 2005

Hi Everyone,
It hardly seems like three weeks since I last wrote! Time has passed so quickly. All the family is well, and enjoying being back at school. Monday is the only day of the week that no child has anything after school. On Tuesday’s there’s Hebrew and Sports so I stay home and cook dinner - which I actually really enjoy.
A few weeks ago I went to ‘6 Flags Great Adventure and Wild Safari’ which is a Theme and Safari park in New Jersey (NJ). I went with Sharee, Step, Sarah, and a girl from Brazil called Amanda. NJ Transit (a bus company) and 6 Flags have an arrangement that you pay $50 for both the (2 hour) bus ride, entrance into the Theme park and entrance into the Safari park - usually it costs $50 just to get into the Theme Park! We caught a bus from NYC leaving at 9:30am and as soon as we got there we went to the Safari Park. This Safari Park is the largest outside of Africa and has a 4.5mile open area drive through part. We saw Elephants, Giraffes, Bears, Bengal Tigers, Monkeys, Camels and a whole lot more! After the Safari Park we headed over to the Theme Park. We went on the Log Flume and put all 5 of us in a boat - we all got off completely saturated! Then came the roller coasters, I went on about 6 or 7 different ones including the Kingda Ka. The Kingda Ka is the tallest fastest roller coaster in the world! It goes from 0 - 128 mph (205kph) in 3.5 seconds! Steph and I were the only ones to brave it. We waited in line for about an hour and the entire ride took 30 seconds! (we timed it). It was soooooooooo much fun!
The following Sunday we went to the Bronx Zoo which was pretty awesome. We saw gorillas, tigers, bears, snakes, black panthers, and I rode a camel! It was a really fun day. The gorilla area is done really well - it’s like you’re walking through a rainforest with the mist and everything. Then you go into a theater and see a film on how you can help stop gorillas from becoming extinct.
There have been a couple of Jewish holidays over the past couple of weeks. First was Rosh Hashanah - the Jewish New Year. We went to Suzie’s parents place in CT for that. We went to the Synagogue of services then went to Suzie’s aunty’s house for a big extended family dinner. The food was really good. Rosh Hashanah is a time to spend with family and hope for a good upcoming year. The other holiday was Yom Kippur which is about a week later. Yom Kippur is a day of repentance and fasting. You start the night before and don’t eat anything until the evening of Yom Kippur. Then you have a meal with family. We had Yom Kippur at our house, I really enjoyed helping Suzie get everything ready and set up for dinner.
This last Sunday I went up the Statue of Liberty with Sarah, Steph, Sharee, and Greta. Since 9/11 you can no longer go up into the crown you can only go up to the feet, but it was still good to do. We had a guided tour through the Statue’s museum which was really interesting. We got to see the original torch (the one on it now is not the original) and stand next to a full size replica of the face - I only come up to half way up its nose!
I mentioned in my last analogue that the weather had started to change, well it’s changes drastically over the past few weeks. It is now no longer warm enough to wear t-shirts and shorts, I have to wear trousers and a sweatshirt!
Well I better go, lots of Love and God Bless
Anna
