December 2005
Hi Everyone,
Well another month has been and gone and Christmas is just around the corner! I had to be organized early this year so that I’d be able to get my presents home in time! We had our first snow fall about a couple of weeks ago - most of it has melted but some still is lying around. The temperature is now averaging 0oC or below!
A few weekends ago I went to CW Post which is a university on Long Island to do my second course - to officially finish my year here I have to have 6 College (university) credits; the history course I’m doing by correspondence gives me 3 but I had to get the other 3. The course I did was called ‘The Changing American Family’ and we learnt about how family life has changed from the time of the Colonists to Present Day families. A lot of it was just talking and watching movies and I became good friends with a few of the girls in my class - the whole weekend was a lot of fun.
One of the biggest holiday’s in America comes at the end of November - Thanksgiving. We went to Suzie’s parents place in Connecticut for Thanksgiving Dinner, a lot of Suzie’s extended family were there too. We had Turkey, Stuffing, Sweet Potatoes, and Vegetables for the main course; then for dessert we had Pumpkin Pie, Apple Pie, Berry Pie, Fresh Fruit, Brownies and Cookies! Thanksgiving was on a Thursday and then on Friday morning we (Suzie, the Kids, Suzie’s parents, Suzie’s aunt and 2 or her cousins) headed up to Mount Snow, Vermont. We went on a Tractor and Trailer ride (everybody was surprised when I said I could drive a tractor) and then went out for dinner. There was snow everywhere, about 10" to a foot of it. The temperature also averaged -5oC for the weekend but on Friday night got down to -10oC!!!!!!!! Saturday morning we woke up and it was snowing. In our house which Suzie's parents rented for the weekend it was Suzie, the kids, me and Suzie's parents. Our house had 3 floors, the top floor had 2 bedrooms one of which was the master room and had a king size bed in it and a bathroom with a spa bath coming off it. The other room also had a bathroom (just a normal one) and 2 single beds. The middle floor had an open living, dining, kitchen area - nicely furnished, my bedroom (with a double bed) a bathroom, a laundry room, and a boot room, and the basement had a bedroom (with either a queen or king bed) a bathroom and a living room/game room. The place we stayed is called 'Greenspring - Luxury Townhouses, The Peaks Prestigious Homes'. They are all vacation homes that (wealthy) people own and stay in when the go skiing - some are let out (like what we stayed in) and some are not. Suzie's Aunt doesn't let hers out, there house was 2 houses down the street and we ate all our meals there. After a late breakfast/brunch on Saturday we all (except papa) went snow shoeing which was sooooooooooo much fun. It was snowing lightly but was not to cold. we did this for a couple of hours. Sunday morning we had another late breakfast and after packing up (we didn't have to clean - house keeping did that!) the kids had a swim (indoor heated pool) and we headed home. It was such a fun great weekend. The first weekend in December I met up with an English couple who have spent the past 11 months in New Zealand and were on their way home. I got to know them a little before I came over here and since they’re were stopping in NYC on their way home we decided to meet up. It was really great to see people that I knew from home and I had an awesome afternoon!
This Sunday a whole group of us kiwi’s are going to see King Kong and The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe back to back and then we’re going to go out for dinner to celebrate my and one of my friend’s birthdays.
I’m now over 3/4 of the way through my working year. I leave NY on the 7th March on a 3 week trek that goes from NYC to LA, then I’m going to visit a friend in San Francisco before coming home at the beginning of April.
Well I better be going, hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and you’ll hear from me in the New Year.
Lots of Love and God Bless
Anna
